From Theory to Infrastructure
By 2012, CoSA had accumulated sufficient community trust and technical expertise to transition from awareness-raising to infrastructure deployment. We partnered with indigenous communities in Ganjam and Khurda districts to design and implement the first-generation solar microgrids—decentralized, community-managed renewable energy systems.
These microgrids weren't merely technical installations; they represented a new model of energy democracy, where communities retained ownership and decision-making authority over their energy infrastructure.
Technical & Social Innovation
The microgrid project demonstrated integrated sustainability:

- •1.2 MW total generation capacity serving 3,000+ households
- •Community-led governance model adopted by 8 user cooperatives
