Commencing Public Engagement
Execution of our inaugural climate awareness initiative, successfully mobilizing over 5,000 community constituents and establishing vital grassroots networks.
Mobilizing Communities
By 2008, CoSA had refined its approach to community engagement. Rather than imposing top-down solutions, we conducted extensive consultation with local leaders, farmers, and knowledge-keepers to understand their perspectives on climate challenges and adaptive capacity.
This collaborative methodology led to our inaugural climate awareness campaign, which reached over 5,000 community members across Odisha's coastal and agricultural regions, generating grassroots support for climate action.
Campaign Outcomes
The campaign's success was measured not just in numbers, but in depth of engagement:
- •Established 12 community learning groups across target districts
- •Created institutional partnerships with local government bodies
- •Trained 200+ local facilitators in climate science and adaptation strategies
- •Published first evidence-based report on community perceptions of climate risk
